How To Play Texas Hold'Em Poker
Playing Texas Hold'Em poker is straight forward and easy for even beginners to learn. Texas Hold'Em is played with each player having two private cards in their hands, and sharing five community cards. Each player must make up the best hand of five cards from the seven cards available to them in order to win the game. Texas Hold'Em games are played with the following steps.
Firstly, the cards are shuffled, and the two players to the left of the dealer pay the Small Blind and the Big Blind. The small blind will be 1/2 of the minimum bet of that table, and the big blind will be the minimum bet of that table. When the blinds are paid, the dealer deals two cards face down to each player. These cards are the players hold cards.
The players take turns betting from the left of the dealer, and can choose to either bet into the game, or fold their hand. Most players that are paying blinds will opt to stay in the hand even if their cards aren't that great because they've had to pay anyway. Players can raise in this first betting round to add more money to the pot. Betting continues around the table until everyone has chosen to check, raise or fold.
When the first betting round is completed, the dealer will burn a card and deal a set of three cards face-up to the center of the table called The Flop. These are the first three community cards that are taken as part of every players hand. Players can then take their turns in order to check, raise or fold on these cards.
After the second betting round the dealer burns a card and deals another card to the community cards. This card is called the Turn. The players again take their turns to bet on their hands.
When the third betting round is finished, the dealer burns another card and deals the fifth, and final, community card called The River. Players take their turns betting on this round as before.
If every player but one folds in this time, the pot is won by the person that is still in, and a new game starts.
If there are still two or more players after the last round of betting, the game hits the Showdown. This is when every player takes their turn to show their cards and see who wins the game. There are some cases where players with the same hands will split the pot, but these are fairly rare, and are easy to see.
