Rules of 5 Card Stud Poker

Five card Stud poker is a game that has been around for along time, and is the oldest form of Stud Poker. 5 Card Stud is still enjoyed by many people that consider themselves as purists to the game. Five Card Stud has four rounds of betting and can be played by up to eight people.

The First Round

All players will pay the Ante for the table and each player is dealt one face-down card and one face-up card and the player with the lowest face-up card starts the betting. The other players then take turns at placing their bets on these cards around the table.

The Next Rounds

After the first betting round, each player is dealt another face-up card and players again bet starting with the lowest face-up hand. This continues until each player left in the game has one face-down card, and one face-up card.

The Showdown

If there is still more then one player left in the game, all of the remaining players show their face-down cards and hands are ranked accordingly to find the winner.

5 Card Stud Tips

Because every player only has one face-down card, if any player has a better hand showing then you have in your hand, it's a very goo idea to fold as your chances of getting a better hand are going to be very slim.

The best part of 5 Card Stud is that you can see what most of the cards on the table are, so if you're looking for a card that's already out, you know not to bother trying for it.
